About GIB
The Global Institute of Behavior is an independent certifying body in applied behavioral science. We develop and maintain competency-based examination standards, and issue professional credentials to practitioners who demonstrate the required level of attainment through our independent assessment process.
What GIB Is
GIB is an independent examination and certification authority. We are not a training provider. Our role is to define what behavioral science competency looks like at each credential level, assess practitioners against those standards through independent examination, and maintain a register of qualified credential holders.
Candidates for GIB credentials prepare through GIB-approved training organizations or through self-directed study against our published competency frameworks. GIB examines and certifies — it does not teach.
Institutional Identity
The Global Institute of Behavior operates from Arlington, Virginia, United States. GIB is an independent organization. We do not hold government accreditation, and GIB credentials are not recognized by, affiliated with, or endorsed by any government agency, intelligence body, or law enforcement authority. Our credentials are professional development qualifications issued by a private independent certifying body.
The Institute is governed by a Board of Governors independent of commercial training interests. Standards development is informed by a Scientific Advisory Council drawing on current behavioral science research.
Mission
Our mission is to develop and maintain rigorous, evidence-informed standards for professional practice in behavioral science, and to certify practitioners who demonstrate genuine competency in applying behavioral science responsibly in professional contexts.
GIB is committed to connecting behavioral science research with professional practice in a manner that is ethical, transparent, and grounded in the current state of scientific evidence — including acknowledging the limitations of behavioral methods where they exist.
What Distinguishes GIB
- Independence: GIB maintains structural separation from all training providers. Examination standards are set by the Institute, not by commercial interests.
- Competency-based assessment: Certifications are awarded on the basis of demonstrated competency against defined standards, assessed by independent examiners.
- Evidence-informed standards: The Scientific Advisory Council reviews examination standards against current behavioral science research on a scheduled cycle.
- Ethical framework: All credential holders are bound by the GIB Code of Ethics, which sets boundaries of responsible professional practice including appropriate acknowledgment of the limitations of behavioral methods.
