The Institute
The Global Institute of Behavior (GIB) is an independent certifying body in applied behavioral science. GIB develops and maintains competency-based examination standards, and issues professional credentials to practitioners who demonstrate the required level of attainment through independent assessment. GIB is not a training provider.
Purpose
The Institute exists to establish rigorous, evidence-informed standards for professional practice in behavioral science, and to certify practitioners who demonstrate genuine competency in applying those standards responsibly in professional contexts.
GIB credentials are designed for professionals working in corporate, investigative, organizational, academic, and advisory environments who require an independently assessed qualification in applied behavioral science.
Domains of Practice
- Structured behavioral observation and documentation for professional decision-support contexts.
- Nonverbal communication awareness and interaction management, applied within appropriate professional boundaries.
- Structured interviewing and elicitation methodology in investigative and compliance settings.
- Evidence-informed behavioral indicators — applied with professional judgment, not as standalone determinants of intent.
- Leadership, negotiation, and organizational behavior skills grounded in applied behavioral science.
Note: GIB certifications are professional development qualifications. No behavioral observation method has been established as a reliable independent indicator of deception. Practitioners are trained to apply behavioral science skills with appropriate professional judgment and within the scope of their credentials.
How the Institute Operates
- Defining competency-based standards for behavioral science certification through a formal, expert-reviewed development process.
- Approving and monitoring training organizations that deliver programs aligned with Institute standards.
- Administering independent examinations and awarding credentials to candidates who meet required standards.
- Maintaining governance through an independent Board of Governors and Scientific Advisory Council, structurally separated from commercial training interests.
- Publishing competency frameworks, ethics documentation, and governance information in the public interest.
