Admissions Inquiries
Admissions inquiries help us determine whether a given program, pathway, or certification level is appropriate for your background and objectives.
Inquiry Process
Prospective candidates are invited to submit an initial inquiry outlining their current role, experience, and interest in behavioral training or certification. This information allows the Institute or an approved training organization to recommend a suitable pathway.
Following an initial review, candidates may be directed to a suitable approved training organization, provided with preparatory guidance, or invited to complete a formal application. Some pathways include a pre-admission suitability assessment.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility criteria vary by certification level and division. The following requirements apply to most certification pathways and are assessed as part of the admissions process.
- Level I — Practitioner: Completion of an approved preparation programme; active professional engagement in a relevant field; agreement to the GIB Code of Ethics and professional conduct standards.
- Level II — Specialist: Holding a current Level I credential or demonstrating equivalent practitioner experience; completion of the approved Level II preparation curriculum; a minimum of two years of documented professional practice in a behavioral science–related role.
- Level III — Master Educator: Holding a current Level II credential; at least five years of senior professional practice; completion of the approved Master Educator preparation programme; evidence of contribution to professional knowledge (publications, training delivery, or equivalent).
For all levels: candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent recognised qualification, or demonstrate substantial professional experience in lieu of formal academic credentials. Equivalency decisions are made at the discretion of the admissions board.
Examination Structure
GIB certification examinations assess competency across defined behavioural science domains. Examinations are administered by approved testing centres or under supervised conditions through authorised training organisations. Candidates receive a Candidate Handbook upon eligibility confirmation detailing format, marking criteria, and pass standards.
The examination is divided into four parts:
- Part I — Behavioural Theory: Foundational knowledge in applied behavioural science, cognitive and social psychology, and models of human behaviour relevant to the candidate's certification division.
- Part II — Applied Analysis: Practical application of observational and analytical frameworks. Candidates demonstrate ability to analyse behavioural data, interpret verbal and nonverbal communication, and apply structured assessment tools.
- Part III — Case Evaluation: Scenario-based assessment requiring candidates to evaluate realistic professional cases. Assesses professional judgement, structured decision-making, and the integration of theoretical knowledge into applied contexts.
- Part IV — Ethical Application: Assessment of the candidate's understanding of professional ethics, scope-of-practice boundaries, and the responsible application of behavioral science credentials in professional settings.
Pass standards are reviewed following each examination administration by the examination board to confirm consistent and fair application across cohorts.
Certification Maintenance
GIB credentials are subject to a two-year renewal cycle. To maintain active certification status, credential holders are required to:
- Complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) per two-year cycle in a behavioural science–related field.
- Confirm ongoing professional activity and adherence to the GIB Code of Ethics.
- Submit a renewal declaration and any supporting documentation requested by the registrar.
- Pay the applicable renewal registration fee.
Failure to complete renewal requirements results in the credential being placed in lapsed status. Lapsed credentials are not considered active and may not be represented as current GIB certifications. Reinstatement procedures are available to credential holders within a specified window; after this period a full re-examination may be required.
